Livonia was once located along with the Baltic states, comprised of the lower part of modern day Estonia and the top part of modern day Latvia. Riga served as a Livonian city originally.

The thing that shaped his personality the most was his centuries of being a knight, eventually serving alongside the Teutonic Order. Livonia was also once part of the Holy Roman Empire. With closer ties to Germany and Prussia then to Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia, he often was in some sort of scuffle with those his fellow Baltic countries, having once alongside Denmark claimed Estonia.

Eventually things started to turn inwards on him, with Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Lithuania and Poland all trying to take his land. Later on, he lived partially with Lithuania and Poland for a while, then Sweden for around 100 years while Riga served as one of the largest Swedish cities. Because of this, later, Russia waged wars against him as well. So now even without a country of his own he's still very aprehensive on staying close to anybody.

Shortly after Russia relinquished his control on Livonia, after a brief union with Estonia, Latvia and Prussia, he had his land split between Estonia and Latvia in the 1940's. Nowadays, there's only 10 native speakers of his language left, and less then 200 who speak it. Constantly feeling as if he's fading from people's memories, he often likes to bring up stories of older times when his country was close to others.

He perfers to stay away from most modern technology, taking a more traditional and often religious outlook on the majority of things.

    Well, far back when Livonia would work with the Teutonic Knights, they... really hated each other. They'd get into wars all the time. (Although it was usually because of being dragged in by the Teutonic Knights, not that Livonia had anything against Lithuania. Just following orders.)

    But Lithuania-Poland did try to take their land alot.

    Later on, however, after the Teutonic Knights and after/around the time Livonia was part of Sweden, at the end there when they were losing Livonia to Russia, Lithuania-Poland took in a large amount of it so it wouldn't be all lost to Russians.

    So in Hetalia terms, when they were younger, they had their quarrels, but it was mostly Gilbert and Poland's fault. As a sort of family, they care and like Lithuania did, tried to help eachother. c: )

    I love the little dictionary that you wrote...the only words thta i know was "Tēriņtš".You make a girl uber happy XD.
    Now it's time for the bad joke: Yeah another guy who lives with his little brother!! ( i tell you that was bad)
